As we all know, there are things in life that happen to us that are simply out of our control. We have all experienced tough times, dramatic times, emotional times, loss, grievance, challenges... The list is endless. However the way you handle these difficult situations is in your control. Again, you have the power to control how you react, how you feel. You have control.

I have recently been working on changing my subconscious mind and the effect that it has on the way that I talk to myself, I.e. The way that I lead my life. Without getting too much into the psychology of the mind, when we are young until the age of about 7, we are like little sponges. We absorb the emotions, beliefs and habits from those surrounding us such as our parents, siblings, grandparents, uncles, aunts, friends, neighbours, basically those with whom are in contact with us on a regular basis. 

Recently, I became really aware of my thought process with regards to my physical appearance, work, money, relationships etc. I noticed that out of nowhere I would randomly think the same sabotaging thoughts over and over again - they appear from nowhere and are on bloody repeat and I am sick of it! So a few weeks ago, I sat down with a piece of paper and divided my life up into different categories and wrote down every negative thought I had about myself with regards to the sections. Once I did this, I got the brightest highlighter that I could find and I wrote 'True' of 'False' beside each sentence. True or False signifies if you actually do believe that particular thought about yourself. Out of 25 statements that I have in my brain on a daily basis do you know how many I actually thought were true..... ONE! I cannot begin to tell you how shocked I was. Guess what I did next... On a separate page, I wrote MY OWN BELIEFS about my life in the exact same categories as before. Well the difference is outstanding, they are positive, constructive, motivational and it's who I want to be. I wrote phrases (thoughts) that will actually lift my spirit, encourage me and enhance my life on a daily basis. So for the past few weeks I have been reading my new thoughts like an essay that I have to learn off my heart. I repeat them over and over again in my mind. When a negative thought comes in to say hello, it gets kicked out by my new programming. I cannot begin to tell you the difference in my energy, my mental focus and over all attitude. 

Your brain is a computer that you can control if you want to. Like I said, there are things that happen to us that are out of our control however the way that you react to these difficult times is in your control. Do you dance in the rain or do you hide from it? 

Try this technique today, you have a choice to live in harmony, to love yourself, to be kind to yourself, to have your light shine from within. Always, always, always dance in the rain!
