I stumbled upon this picture and it brought back a funny memory that got me thinking...
Yes! I am a tree hugger :) I'm a country girl and I like to be in nature as much as I can for many reasons. The main reasons, to feel grounded, gain clarity and to simply let my inner child run free.
As my dear friend started to take this picture I noticed that I was not alone with this tree. There was a HUGE spider coming right at me. I don't know if he was being inquisitive, marking his territory or what, but I ran like the clappers and I did not wait to find out what he was going to do. Of course, it was very funny at the time.
So, when I stumbled upon this picture/ memory, it made me think about our values and our beliefs and how at times, people can try to sway you away from your beliefs or push you to do something that you didn't want to do... yes, I did get all this from a spider!
My thought process: I ran because I didn't feel comfortable and I knew staying there would not benefit me.
- Have you ever felt that people were pushing their own beliefs onto you?
- Have you ever felt as though someone was trying to get you to do something that you didn't want to do?
- Have you ever been in a situation where you just didn't want to be there?
NO MORE! Life is far too short for you to be put into situations that you don't want to be in.
The next time you find yourself in a situation whereby someone is preaching rather than teaching or someone is trying to get you to do something/ go somewhere that you don't want to go, ask yourself this:
- How will doing this make me feel?
- What will I gain from doing this or
- What will I gain from feeling this way?
If the answers to the above questions are not positive, if you wont gain anything from a situation or if you feel like it is not getting you towards your goals then STOP! Say no with no excuses and walk away.
If you genuinely don't want to do something, if you know it wont benefit you in any way shape or form then don't do it.
Your values, your beliefs and your desires are what makes you who you are. Our values are important because they help us to grow and develop. They help us to create the future we want to experience and the life we want to live.
You are involved in making hundreds of decisions every single day. The decisions we make are a reflection of our values and beliefs, and they are always directed towards a specific purpose. That purpose is the satisfaction of our individual needs. When we use our values to make decisions, we make a deliberate choice to focus on what is important to us and that should never be swayed.
So, what are your values? Are you always staying true to who you are? Are you always going in the direction of your goals?
If the answer is not yes, then you must ask yourself why?!
"Never waste your feelings on those who don't value them"
